“The 1984 Wage Freeze and Contradictions in Fiji Government Development Policy”. Paper given to Fiji Labour Summit and Biennial Conference, May 1985. Travelodge, Suva.
With the Fiji Public Service Association inviting me as Chief Guest to their Annual General Meeting (Novotel, 15 March 2014), I was poignantly reminded of a similar invitation by FTUC and the Labour Summit, just almost thirty years ago, to assist them in responding to the draconian Wage Freeze by the Alliance Government.
The paper I delivered then is here, and it is surprising how relevant are many of those themes to the current situation, but so much more complex and difficult for the labor movement to tackle.
