“1975 YWCA/USPSA/SCM Submission on Parliamentary Emoluments” (21 July 2016)

In 1975, the Fiji YWCA (Director Amelia Rokotuivuna), USP Students Association and the USP Student Christian Movement, made a submission to the Fiji Parliament into emoluments for parliamentarians.

The reasoning that went on forty years ago, may have some relevance for the current processes that the Bainimarama Government “uses” to decide unilaterally what its Ministers are paid (overtly and covertly for some years), as well as what parliamentarians are paid. Democracy has taken a beating in Fiji, over the last ten years.
